Coca Cola Pavilion

Coca Cola Pavilion

122.4 X 145.5 cm     mm/c     2010/6/17

When Dr. John Pemberton first invented “Coca-Cola” in 1886, it cost him $70 in business expenses, and he sold only $50 worth of the drink that year. Yet now Coca-Cola has become commonplace throughout the world and products are consumed at the rate of more than one billion drinks per day. Coca-Cola has also become an American icon of sorts, and a major sponsor of international events. At the Shanghai WorldExpo for example, the Coca-Cola Pavilion takes up twostories with exhibition halls, VIP lounges, and theatre;and declares the theme: “Coca-Cola and EXPO 2010, A World refreshed with Happiness.”

In this work, Dr. Chen decorates rows of Coca-Cola bottles, with colorful, stunning pop art. In addition, the founder Dr. Pemberton’s portrait, along with some Shanghai Expo logo and elements complete the painting.
